“I do the very best I can,
I mean to keep going.
If the end brings me out all right, then what is said against me won't matter.
If I'm wrong,
ten angels swearing I was right won't make a difference.”

― Abraham Lincoln

I’m not sure if people get the true meaning as to why the Gettysburg Address was such an incredible achievement.

It is likely ,
in private he felt this way:

“I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.”

― Abraham Lincoln

It is said, after the battle of Gettysburg, there where so many dead on the field it took them weeks, even months to burry all the bodies. Even years later, bodies where found.

The entire country was ripped apart in violent warfare . Scores, and scores of boys were dying and simple people had a very vague understanding why and horrible sadness and disbelief in the hearts. Lincoln definitely sensed this and very likely felt sick and full of an odd guilt , doubt, fear ... and There were scores, and scores of people who wanted him dead. People completely convinced , even people in his own Cabinet who thought, and had reasonable grounds to think he lead the country in to a fatal disaster. People openly mocked him and made fun of him. They made fun of him for his awkwardness , his country , back woods demeanor , his accent and high pitched twangy voice. His country humor. He was known for wrestling people as a President for fun...He was known to suffer depression.

Finally, at Gettysburg, success in terms of the war, but it was a disaster and most of the country couldn’t begin to comprehend the near future. That the war effort has changed and in time the confederacy would fail . Most people wanted the agony and insanity to end. failure , after failure, nothing seemed to work. He just couldn’t find solutions and or answers... It was some what like a train wreck up until this time.

There were so many dead, he could never write all these types of letters:

“Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,--

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln”
― Abraham Lincoln

He had to sum it all up in one speech. Define our purpose as a nation, remind us of who we are and create a vision in our heads as to where we need to go.

The country needed a vision during a very trying time.

The speaker before him was vastly more polished, a professional, and he went on and on. I believe in was an hour or two, he hogged the stage.

Lincoln came up, with his high pitched “country / southern like twang” and gave a short speech that ended up not only next to our greatest documents as a nation, but possibly next to the greatest speech ever given.

It seemingly happened in a flash, out of know where, no one had seen it coming and I’m certain even Lincoln didn’t even know a fraction of what the gravity would be.

You can you begin to imagine what it must have been like for him?

    •  We often view such a achievement as coming from special people and couch it there, but that is far from it most noble value. This is you, in your own way, no matter what it is such things can and will happen to you if you struggle and hang on to your convictions when everything seems to fall and their is no hope in sight and your rational mind and many others have good reason to think you are a fool and your mind is cloudy with wishful thinking and dreams.... In the end, as Lincoln said:“I do the very best I can,

    • I mean to keep going.
    • If the end brings me out all right, then what is said against me won't matter.
    • If I'm wrong,
    • ten angels swearing I was right won't make a difference.”
    • ― Abraham Lincoln ....My father used to quote me this all the time. I vividly remember him doing it and sensing how many times he felt like lincoln . There is a reason why he said this to me over and over again, and to honor him I've said it to myself, over and over again, and I think you should too.

  • THE STORM

is it the dance, dancer, or dance? ...... life is but a dance.

    ~•~

    “There is a vitality,

    a life force,

    an energy,

a quickening that is translated through you into action,

and because there is only one of you in all time,

    this expression is unique.

    And if you block it,

it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. ”
    ― Martha Graham

“Dance is the hidden language of the soul”
    ― Martha Graham

The American indians had a war dance & and song; they had a dance and song for death. Many cultures have dances for many things, but in sum, it seems to me, dance and song set you souls to motion and thus set it free!

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination
    and life to everything.”
    ― Plato

On the converse, when I’ve felt pure terror, the best way to describe it is with the analogy of being caught in a blizzard. You freeze up , quite literally. You feel your options closing down in all there ways and time is nipping at your heals; the burning , tingling sensation and your body and mind are not cooperating. Your whole world , survival, comes down to keeping that ember inside you alive. you’re up against a cliff , your wits in full, and pure faith and or stored beliefs are thrown on to your ember and your will ignites.

In WW2, the soldiers used to say after being saved and emerging from a battle, we have angels on our shoulders .

Storms subside, and it’s at these moment, you feel most alive.

Once when you're born
And once when you look death in the face.”

DANGEROUS METHOD

How many times have you seen a movie open with a horse and buggy delivering someone ?When you think of Carl Jung and all that comes to mind, what sticks in your mind most?Further, when you think about mental illness and especially through the eyes of Freud and Jung, what comes to mind ?In light of these questions and when you think about the movie DANGEROUS MINDS, are you satisfied ?

Personally, it could have been allot better. The fist fourth of the film is predictable and without imagination ... I really don't like how it was directed .... The actors are decent . Knightly gets allot better towards the end, but having started off all wrong the impact is lost.

WHAT IF THE APPLE WAS YOUR OYSTER ?

You’re an emerging  talent and you’ve just been offered a Job by Steve Jobs, You will be working with you allot.
Do you take the job?

Could you deal with it?

What would it do to you?

Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography of Jobs offers a revealing look at what the author has called "good Steve" and "bad Steve." Good Steve was brilliant, charismatic, a champion for excellence, an alchemist who turned a moribund computer company into gold. Bad Steve was petulant, rude, spiteful, and controlling, a man who thought nothing of publicly humiliating employees, hogging the credit for work he hadn't done, throwing tantrums when he didn't get his way, or parking his Mercedes in handicapped spots. For several years, he even denied the paternity of his daughter so that the child and her mother had to live on welfare.

Could you have dealt with Steve Jobs?

Some writers are born, some become great  and others are thrust into greatness?

How do you see it?

Can you tell the difference ?

Do you have examples?

Or just talk about it.

KR

Autumn has just settled in ,
I was out walking in the light rain,
and it was perfect.
Autumn colors and black,
it felt good!

I bought steak,
Cabernet red wine a Jewish bread,
I'm having a feast and listening to this song.

Thinking of people far away now,
hoping they are doing well.
